Beaulieu-Sur-Mer: The timeless “Villa Kerylos”

French Riviera

In the collection “the most beautiful Villa on the Riviera”, the Villa Kerylos deserves its place on the podium!

To all the architecture lovers and curious people out there, this is a must-see villa on the Côte d’Azur.

Hoping you have a thing for floors, marbles, and frescos, because the villa Kerylos is the perfect example of an antic Greek villa with one single exception: the house is on the French Riviera.

Not only Kerylos is a beautiful Greek house, the villa is seated on a rock overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

Now you want to know more, right?

Beaulieu-Sur-Mer is a quiet town on the French Riviera, which sees its population growing every summer. This small town has everything one can love: its proximity with Monaco and Nice, its beaches, its casino, its hotels and restaurants, and its easy access by train.

Quick recommendation while you are in town:

For a beach stop, I recommend the Baie des fourmies” beach, only two minutes’ walking distance from the villa Kerylos

For the “restaurant to be”, I would say African queen. It has been an institution in Beaulieu-sur-Mer for the past 50 years! It is a good and luxury pizzeria, very famous and popular for many visitors and locals.

If you are seeking more simplicity and a tasty restaurant, Les vents d’Anges will be a perfect choice. I will describe it as a French/Italian cuisine which brings me back to saying “local cuisine”. I still remember the taste of the great dinner i had a few years ago, starring “the gratinated mussels”.

Any craving for a great French fine dining restaurant? I recommend dining at the Restaurant des Rois. A Michelin starred restaurant , part of the beautiful hotel La Réserve de Beaulieu. This five-star hotel (which is part of the Leading Hotels of the World) made its reputation based on excellency, a reference in the French hospitality. From the products to the service, I am sure you will have a great time! How can you be disappointed by the “Meilleur Ouvrier de France 2019” (French craftsperson)? The “Restaurant des Rois” ,translated “Kings’restaurant”, is aptly named, with its beautiful golden room and its large windows facing the sea.

For an evening cocktail, I would also suggest La Réserve de Beaulieu. Established in a lovely courtyard, The Gordon Bennett Bar is the most romantic and classy bar in town! Make sure to visit the evening that the musicians perform.

Visit at the Villa Kerylos

The villa Kerylos will take you on a lovely journey in antic Greece!

This property is not dating from the antic period. It has been built much more recently, in 1902, by the architect Emmanuel Pontremoli, for a passionate archaeologist, a certain Mr Théodore Reinach. Does it ring a bell? No? Me neither!

Thanks to this “Greek antic lover”, I had the pleasure to visit this sumptuous property.

The house offers a marvelous view of the Mediterranean Sea from every single room. And the ceramic and wooden furniture design the entire house.

Do I even need to mention the beauty of the patio?

Bathed by natural sunlight, the Greek-style columns, and fresco decor this dreamy patio.
