What would you say, if I tell you “homemade burger”?
No, no, no, I’m not talking about cutting the tomatoes and onion by yourself, I am talking about making “your” burger buns! It is delicious and for once you know what you will eat! How good It is to eat your food additive-free …
And no, it is not difficult… if I made it, you can make it! So, let do it!
What do we need? All we need is love and:
For 2 buns
For the dough
-250 gr of flour
-10 gr of sugar
-5 gr of salt
-20 gr of baker’s fresh yeast (or 10gr of baker’s dry yeast)
-15 gr of butter
-5 cl of milk
-10 cl of water
For the topping
-1 egg yolk or 10 gr of melted butter
-Provencal herbs or sesame seeds
Let do the buns!
In a bowl, add the water, milk and crumbled fresh yeast. Cover the bowl and let it rest for 10 mn.
In another bowl, hand mix the flour, sugar, salt, melted butter, beaten egg and add to the bowl with the yeast, milk and water mixture. + TIPS: You can add paprika, it will change the taste and color or the buns.
Knead the dough for at least 10mn. I know you can do it!
+ TIPS: the dough needs to be flexible.
When you get a good dough texture, cover the dough and let it rise for one hour and a half.
If you did a good job (I am sure you did), the dough should be nearly double in size.
Then, carefully take the dough and divide it into 2 or 3 and shape the buns (if you wish to have more buns, double the ingredients).
Place the buns on a baking sheet (with parchment paper).
+ TIPS: the buns will need to be distanced from each other as it will grow while baking.
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
With the help of a kitchen brush, brush the top of the bun with an egg yolk or melted butter and add the Provencal herbs or sesame seeds on the top.
Bake them for 10 to 12mns
+ TIPS: I know you wish to eat them all immediately, but I’d recommend letting it cool off for a bit before cutting in to them.
Here you are – you can fill them with tomatoes, onion, cheese, meat or a vegetarian alternative…
To use cheddar but also any cheese you like
To add chopped onions and pickle into the minced meat
To cook the meat blue or extra rare to avoid overcooking the meat (cause it will be cooked again in the oven)
To sauté some onion into the meat sauce for more taste
To cook your burger without the top and add the top and the end of the baking
To add salad before serving (PLEASE, who likes warm salad …)
Last thing to do: BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!
Et bon appétit!
