Italy has a very special place in my heart, and without no surprise, it was the destination I chose to celebrate our first wedding anniversary!
I think piedmont is the perfect destination in spring or fall, it has the most beautiful landscape view with the green vine, warm weather or the orange leaves, truffle hunt and cozy evening by the fireplace.
My definition of a perfect place is a great destination but so the perfect hotel to stay. I give a lot of importance to the comfort and the design of a property; I love it when it has a soul and history.
I am sharing with you my little treasure in the heart of Piedmont: “Villa la Madonna”!
Piedmont is a province located in the northwest of Italy sharing the borders with France and Switzerland. The main and well-known city of Piedmont is “Torino” and you can easily combine your trip with a stop in Torino, Como lake, Milano… (it all depends on the time you have). Driving to Milano or Torino from Nice (France) takes around 2 hours, and the drive is quite pleasant.
A gourmet destination – from the wine to the cheese, and the tasty piedmont cuisine!
Without any surprise, the Slow food concept has been invented in Bra, a small town near Alba.
To all the wine adept, the region is full of wine producers, Barolo, Barbera, Barbaresco… Some of them have been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
Alba, a city close to the Villa la Madonna is well-known for the white truffle, where you find the truffle festival in October-November, with the market, tasting…
Cheese has also a big place in the piedmont gastronomy, I love to taste them at the Aperitivo or with a wine tasting! Good news, you can have wine tasting everywhere!
The soul of the Villa la Madonna
A place where you feel like home!
Logic, Villa la Madonna is own by two sisters… The house was in the family and they decide to open a boutique hotel with their decoration influence.
The design of the place is amazing, they kept the house spirit and decorated with such good taste!
Every single corner is pleasant to stay: the underground wine cellar, the coziest fireplace, the reading lounge, the beautiful restaurant made with stones, the veranda facing their vineyard, the peaceful spa and the yoga room with a view on the plain and mountain. Can we talk about the pool in the middle of the vineyard?
The Villa la Madonna’s team made our stay! There is such a great atmosphere, thanks to the team… We have been treated like kings!
OMG, the food and wine – I still dream about it!
The day is rhythmed by food; a delicious breakfast is served in the morning in the restaurant and veranda.
Then, lunch can be served by the pool, in the veranda or the courtyard on a big sharing wooden table. The cuisine is absolutely all homemade, can you imagine fresh ravioli and gnocchi every day? Always pairing with the perfect Barolo house wine!
+ TIPS: You should try the gnocchi with sage butter, I would kill for it! And do not hesitate to get a bottle of wine instead of glasses… Any leftovers can be kept for dinner.
By the end of the afternoon, it is the “Aperitivo time”, the best Italian invention! At the bar, there is a display of an Aperitivo buffet with ham and cheese, get you a glass of wine or Aperol Spritz and chill at the courtyard or fireplace… No better way to end the day!
Wine at the villa is mandatory, a paradise for foodies! Get a wine tasting or dinner in the beautiful wine cellar for more piedmont experience. Or have your candlelit dinner at the restaurant and taste all the piedmont specialties homemade by the chef!
+ TIPS: They also organize lunch or picnic in the row of vines. Also, the wedding – ok, a wedding venue at Villa la Madonna could be just ideal.
Sleep, drink and?
Food is life, but what about a visit to the vineyard, get a treatment at the spa or chill by the pool after your yoga session…
Bicycles are available for a nice ride or you can go on the season for a truffle hunting.
Acqui Terme is a thermal town with baths full of curative waters and it is only 20 minutes driving from the Villa!
Discover the cheese and wine tasting around the villa or drive to alba for the truffle festival (in Oct-Nov).
Nature and sportive lovers can leave the house with a picnic bag for trekking.
There is so much to do, or nothing and chill. After all, it is your getaway…
